One of my favourite services in the salon is a blow dry. It’s also a skill that I see slipping in our industry. I remember the days of hair school, stylists would blow dry from wet with the smallest round brush possible. Luckily we’ve learned a few things along the way. As a stylist I invite everyone to go get a blow dry at another salon or better yet within your own. Are the skills within your salon slipping? Or were you pleasantly surprised how great it was?

So often stylists are masters of coloring or cutting hair but then the finish is lacking the quality that would show it off.

Here’s a thought. Think of the sexiest sports car you can imagine. You are at the dealership to pick it up and can barely hold back the excitement. There it is, as it rounds the corner you see it. The parking lot was under construction and unfortunately the lot needs a resurfacing. As the driver was bringing the car around he drove thru all the mud and it appears he drove thru every puddle along the way. Hard to see what color the car is as it lacks the lustre and shine. How do you feel?

Now let’s go back to the salon environment. How good is that color or cut when the finishing is weak?

So let’s discuss the blow dry. Are you currently doing well with this service ? What is your yearly revenue for just just the blow dry service? Blow dry bars have been popping up everywhere and there is a reason for it. Have you thought about a blow dry membership or a blow dry rewards card ? Do you offer your blowouts in categories? Straight , wave, curl, day look , night look etc……
